The Backstory:
After studying French and Italian literature at Oxford University, Rosh Mahtani spent time travelling where she became inspired by Dante’s Comedy texts and knew she wanted to use them as a basis to launch a collection of modern heirlooms. After spending time working in styling and e-commerce, and perfecting the business plan, the Alighieri brand was launched in 2014.

Inspired by Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’; each piece corresponds to one of the poet’s 100 poems. As the pilgrim journeys through the realms of Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, he encounters mythical creatures, scraggy landscapes, and terrifying demons.
Mahtani translates this into the eclectic mix and match earrings, irregular shaped pendants and textures which are crafted in the jewellery mecca of Hatton Garden using a traditional wax carving technique.

The campaign photography is a key part of the brand’s aesthetic. Photographed by Rosh herself on 35mm, she is breathing fresh air into the typical bright white light style of jewellery photography. Showcased on the brands covetable instagram feed, it tells the story of the collections and individual pieces and will make you want to buy every single piece of jewellery and attempt to photograph it as beautifully as Rosh does – one of our go to accounts for inspiration.

Cementing its cult status, Alighieri collaborated with British cult brand Joseph and creative director Louise Trotter on an exclusive silver collection for the Joseph SS18 catwalk show.
