Set in such idyllic surroundings, it’s hard not to be inspired by the jewellery offerings that the Mediterranean islands have to offer. From sunkissed silver at the top of mountains, to gold treasures tucked down narrow streets, we explored the islands of Europe as well as a little further North to bring you some of our favourite pieces that found a place in our hearts this summer.
Molten Gold : Murano, Italy
The tiny island of Murano is a short boat trip from Venice and is better known for its tradition of hand-blown glass, however in between the churches & canals we came across these golden treasures. Modernising more traditional jewellery styles, we love the intricate detail that these designers have added to the pieces, while keeping a simplicity that makes them wearable.
Surrealist Shapes : Mykonos/ Corfu, Greece
While travelling around the islands of Mykonos & Corfu we came across many sun kissed jewels in whitewashed cabinets, in between sharing fresh pitta & juicy olives at regular pit stops! The surreal, almost Dali-esque shapes of these earrings are a favourite of ours. The delicate craftsmanship of the jewellery and organic curves bring a modern update to classic Greek motifs.
Jewels with a view : Oia, Santorini, Greece
One of our all-time favourite unexpected jewellery locations is this spot in Oia, Santorini. After a long climb up cobbled streets through sunbleached houses we finally arrived at this view of the island: enhanced by the classic yet minimal handmade local jewellery.
Fine Treasures : Antwerp, Belgium
As hard as it was to drag ourselves away from the Mediterranean, we next travelled North to the fashion-focused city of Antwerp to get inspired by the place that has housed some of the world’s most influential designers. One of our favourites, the native Belgian Fine Jewellery designer Karolin Studio is stocked at designer boutique Renaissance and uses fine metalwork & stones in elegant yet approachable designs.
Mixing Metals : Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Slightly further North in Europe, the boutiques in the winding lanes of Amsterdam offer a modern bohemian style for the creatives that live & visit here. Our favourite concept store ‘Hutspot’ stocks small jewellery brands designed to be layered and stacked together, mixing metals and chains so that their wearer can build their own story.
As we continue to explore our favourite cities & countries to find hidden treasures across the globe, be sure to follow our Instagram for updates on Daer Discovers. We would love to hear recommendations of your favourite jewellery spots for inspiration of where we should travel next!
